Scantron Industrial Products (Scantron) has completed the custom build phase of its non-contract surface and shape measurement system, the Proscan Magnum. The system, due to ship out in August this year to India for one of the world’s largest metals producers, is ideal for applications within the metals industry.
“We are totally focused on providing the best non-contact metrology solutions for our customers,” said Lars Lindstrand, Managing Director of Scantron Industrial Products. “This build represents the latest in a long line of non-contact surface and shape tables that provide superlative accuracy. This one sits on a 10-tonne slab of granite to ensure the system is highly stable in terms of temperature, vibration, and movement.”
The offline measurement system improves accuracy levels by detecting production defects. During metal production, residual shapes can remain within the material after the metal is rolled. This is expected when the sample strip is placed on a flat surface table and scanned to measure the centre buckle and edge buckle. The Proscan Magnum measures the latent shape in the materials and provides the user with the wave length, waves per metre, and I-units.
“We constantly look for unique and novel ways to improve our products,” said Dr Simon Harding, Technical Director at Scantron Industrial Products. “Adding burr and camber measurement is a natural addition to the Proscan Magnum. We believe that Proscan Magnum is unrivalled in the industry.”
In this particular instance, edge burr and camber measurement options have been added which can be used after slitting operations.
