Renishaw to exhibit smallest wireless machine tool probe at EMO Hannover 2023

Renishaw has launched the RMP24-micro, which is the smallest wireless machine tool probe that is available on the market. The global engineering technology company’s latest launch works to eliminate scrap, therefore reducing wasted energy, materials, and time.

Renishaw will be showcasing its latest product at EMO Hannover 2023. The wireless machine tool probe measures only 24mm in diameter and 31.4mm in length, with measurement repeatability of 0.35-micron 2σ and low trigger forces. Due to its size, the RMP24-micro will be ideal for manufacturers in the medical, micro-mechanics, and watchmaking industries.

The precision measurement and process control technology enables productive and sustainable manufacturing as the RMP24-micro works to predict, identify, and correct process errors before they occur. Like its other probing solutions, Renishaw’s latest product allows manufacturers to increase machine utilisation and operate 24/7. Further reducing waste and energy consumption.

Back then we spoke about how this new interface and communications protocol was laying the foundations for the next generation of Renishaw sensors. Using the RMI-QE radio interface, the RMP24-micro uses Renishaw’s radio transmission protocol to communicate with the machine tool controller. The radio transmission probing system features an operating range of up to 5 metres and employs a 2.4 GHz frequency (FHSS) protocol, which is compliant with radio regulations worldwide. 

Using the FHSS technology, the probe and interface can jump from channel to channel while maintaining communication. This allows the product to operate alongside other radio sources including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and microwaves.
