OptoSurf
OptoSurf is known for its scattered light technology.
Mahr Inc. has announced its acquisition of OptoSurf GmbH. Through this move, the dimensional metrology solutions provider will be able to expand its optical surface metrology portfolio as well as enhance the assessment of tribological properties. Following the acquisition, Mahr’s customers will have access to more advanced options and will be able to more accurately and efficiently measure surfaces with reduced friction and wear, using a more effective system.
OptoSurf is well known for its scattered light technology, which is particularly effective with finely machined surfaces with high functional requirements. Roughness can be detected down to the nanometre range, which is key as “the rougher the surface, the greater the angle distribution and the wider the scattering of the reflected light.” This is closely related to the friction behaviour of surfaces in tribological systems.
“Scattered light technology is an ideal addition to Mahr’s existing systems,” said Manuel Hüsken, CEO of the Mahr Group. “Our customers will benefit significantly, gaining higher productivity and expanded functionalities and application possibilities in surface analysis.”
With the high levels of accuracy seen in scattered light technology, the solution can be used in a selection of applications including within the electromobility, mechanical engineering, aerospace technology, medical technology, and semiconductor technology sectors.
