The Mahr's robot places the component on the workpiece holder of the MarSurf device
Mahr Engineered Solutions has announced the development of its robot solutions to automate recurring measurements. The system works to eliminate the need for personnel to man the measuring station unless they are reloading the magazines, and increase the degree of utilisation of the measuring system with simultaneous loading and measuring possible depending on the application.
Key information:
- Mahr’s robot promotes productivity as it ensures that no personnel are stuck at the measuring station, with an operator only required to reload magazines.
- Additionally, the system can be reprogrammed for other workplaces, making the robot flexible to use.
- As the robot increases both throughput and the service life of the measuring device, costs decrease.
Mahr’s latest development will be suitable for manufacturers who wish to inspect high quantities of a recurring workpiece. The system is also compact and only takes up as much space as a standard measuring system, and it can be easily and quickly moved to other workplaces. Additionally, by using the robot, the user will increase the service life of the measuring device, with three-shift operation also possible. This leads to an increase in throughput and productivity and a decrease in costs.
"At the moment, we are planning the robot for MarSurf measuring stations," commented Axel Binder, Director Global Engineered Solutions. "But all other measuring stations, such as for form measurement with our MarForm MMQ family, are also conceivable in the future. All in all, we thus offer a cost-effective and standardised solution for pallet measurement."
How does Mahr's solution work?
The system features a workpiece storage unit which contains the parts (stored in pull-out magazines) that need to be measured. A robot arm is attached to the MarSurf measuring station located on the unit, where it can easily access the magazines located in the storage unit.
The robot will pull a magazine out and remove a component using the gripper, before placing it on the workpiece holder of the MarSurf device. Then the measuring process will start automatically. Following the completion of the measurement, the robot will return the part to the workpiece storage.
