Hexagon's head office in Canada
Hexagon has revealed a 10-year partnership with NASCAR’s most successful team, Hendrick Motorsports. The Swedish company will supply the team with the latest scanning, measuring, and digitisation technologies.
Key information:
- Hexagon's metrology technologies will help Hendrick Motorsports measure a higher volume of parts, so the team can meet tight deadlines and production lead times.
- These new technologies will help the NASCAR team make more informed choices when it comes to which components and assemblies are ideal for each specific racetrack.
- New collaborative robotic inspection capabilities also promise to help eliminate inspection bottlenecks with the ability to automate unattended measurements.
The two companies are coming together with the shared goal of elevating the team's performance to the next level as the Hendrick Motorsports team hopes to achieve its 300th Cup victory and 500th NASCAR national series engine win.
“A relentless focus on quality, accuracy and attention to the finest details is what wins races and championships in NASCAR,” said Jeff Andrews, President and General Manager of Hendrick Motorsports. “In today’s environment, the level of competition is very high, and we must maximise everything we can control. Hexagon’s precision products provide us peace of mind as we enter race weekends on the cusp of some remarkable milestones. With this landmark decade-long commitment, we look forward to celebrating many exciting achievements together in the future.”
Hexagon will bring a variety of its metrology technologies to the partnership to reduce bottlenecks, increase the volume of parts that the team can measure to meet tight deadlines, and allow Hendrick Motorsports to make more informed decisions regarding what components and assemblies are ideal for each racetrack. With the tight performance margins in NASCAR, and motorsport generally, Hexagon’s technologies will allow the team to collect metrology data quicker and easier, so they can get the best performance out of the car.
Additionally, Hexagon will provide three new coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) to Hendrick Motorsports. These new technologies provide the team with the ability to complete probing and non-contact measurements as well as have an overall greater inspection capacity. With increased inspection flexibility, challenging materials like carbon fibre can be more accurately scanned.
“Partnering to provide technologies that will help Hendrick Motorsports continue to make race-winning performance innovations is an exciting opportunity and further strengthens the long-time relationship we have maintained,” said commercial operations manager Scott Grumbles of Hexagon. “In providing metrology solutions that offer more flexibility, capacity and accuracy, the goal is to ensure Hendrick Motorsports has the tools it needs to confidently push the limits of performance and keep crossing the finish line first.”
In addition to supplying technologies from Hexagon’s Manufacturing Intelligence division, the information technology solution provider will also sponsor a 3,000-square-foot advanced Quality Control Lab at Hendrick Motorsports’ Concord, North Carolina, Campus. The new lab will include portable laser scanners that can simplify the measurement of components throughout the facility.
