General Inspection has revealed it has installed a VisionLab-300-X 3D fastener gauging system at a large bolt manufacturing facility in Indiana. The system aims to streamline the inspection process, specifically in the first part. Previously, the bolt manufacturer had three 12'' LaserLab systems and only needed one VisionLab-300-X in comparison. The transfer was made easier by the fact that VisionLab accepts previously programmed parts from legacy LaserLab systems.
The gauging system utilises the dimensional measurement specialist’s patented 3D gauging technology which claims to provide complete part dimensional layouts in up to five seconds. 360° dimensional inspection is capable with this system, plus 360° visual defect detection. A camera, which is bottom-facing, can also verify head markings and also measure recess features.
The VisionLab-300-X gauging system works by:
- It starts by measuring parts (including lengths, diameters, radii, angles, and GD&T features) up to 12'' long and up to 4'' in diameter.
- Pass/fail ratings will be provided for each measurement.
- The user will then receive a custom data report (as either a CSV or Excel file). This specific manufacturer will be using its MySQL built-in server which is connected to their SPC program.
- Part tolerances are assigned a part number and stored in memory for speedy recall.
By utilising this gauging system, an organisation can save time and money while improving quality control levels. The latter is a result of the user now being able to measure parts within two microns accurately.
