Cohu has announced that a leading US memory and data storage technologies company has adopted its Neon platform. The customer will leverage the solution for inspection metrology processes of high bandwidth memory devices (HBM) in high-performance computing (HPC) and generative artificial intelligence (AI) applications.
The Neon solution provides full, six-sided optical inspection and measurement of micro-pillars. The vision system can be integrated with factory automation and provides an efficient output sorting process that works to address current and roadmap HBM market needs.
“We are pleased to have received an initial order from one of the world’s leading semiconductor memory manufacturers to improve the quality of HBM memory used in AI data centres,” said Luis Müller, CEO and President of Cohu. “This is a new market application for Cohu products, and it represents a strategic and substantial growth opportunity aligned with secular growth in artificial intelligence.”
Key features of the Neon platform:
- A vision system with six-sided optical inspection and measurement micro-pillars.
- Can be fully integrated for factory automation.
- Provides an efficient output sorting process that addresses current and roadmap HBM market needs.
- Delivers accurate and reliable metrology of thousands of micro-pillars over the HBM device.
- The AI inspection software uses proprietary deep learning and neural network-based pattern recognition to improve inspection yield.
The HBM market is expected to be worth around $23 billion this year, with a CAGR of 22% through 2029.
