Camtek has announced the acquisition of the FRT Metrology business from FormFactor Inc for $100 million in cash, with the deal subject to customary purchase price adjustments. The move aims to facilitate Camtek’s continual growth as a supplier of inspection metrology solutions.

Based in Bergisch Gladbach, Germany, FRT specialises in the production of high-precision metrology solutions to serve the advanced packaging and silicon carbide markets. Whereas Camtek is an established name in the semiconductor industry relating to the development of inspection and 3D metrology solutions.

Beyond the immediate financial contribution, we expect further synergies that will contribute to Camtek’s overall growth prospects in 2024 and beyond. We look forward to capturing a larger share of the unique growth opportunities ahead of us.”
The acquisition aims to leverage Camtek and FRT’s technologies of packaging and silicon carbide that require new inspection and metrology steps within semiconductor manufacturing processes. Camtek hopes to provide its customers with a broader variety of solutions for inspection and metrology using FRT’s hybrid multi-sensor SurfaceSens technology.

The acquisition is expected to be fully finalised at the end of Q4 2023, subject to the satisfaction of customary closing conditions.
