This month, Manufacturing Quality has been bringing you the latest news surrounding the Formnext event in Frankfurt, Germany. Last week, it was finally time to attend.
We spent two days on the show floor meeting and viewing a variety of metrology, inspection, and quality assurance-related companies. Below, we have compiled a list of our four Formnext highlights.
Meeting Artec 3D’s Artec Studio 19
Artec 3D
Artec 3D at Formnext.
On the first day of Formnext, Artec 3D unveiled the latest edition of its Artec Studio software, Artec Studio 19. The latest innovation to the platform includes wider scanner integration, improved software performance, and new artificial intelligence (AI) photogrammetry capabilities.
Shortly following the launch, we spoke to Igor Detz, Trainer and 3D Scanning Specialist at Artec 3D, regarding the announcement. Detz talked us through the metrology capabilities of the new software update, especially relating to the newly released Artec Point and Artec Spider II solutions. We also received a live demonstration of AS19, providing us with a front-row seat to how the new AI photogrammetry feature has innovated the already successful platform.
Exploring Interspectral’s AM Explorer
On day two, we stopped by Interspectral’s stand to see its visualisation software package, AM Explorer, live in action. Isabelle Granberg, Accounts Specialist Trainee at Interspectral, provided us with a tour of the platform and the various modes that aid the user in achieving defect detection.
The company was celebrating the reaffirmation of its partnership with EOS, whose stand you could spy from Interspectral’s own. Granberg even showed the capabilities of the AM Explorer solution using an EOS project.
Altair showcases the heart behind 3D printing
Manufacturing Quality was invited to Altair’s media lunch on day two at Formnext. During the event, the computational intelligence specialist provided an overview of the latest advancements in AI-powered design and optimisation with a particular focus on the additive manufacturing industry.
However, our favourite part of Altair’s presentation was the heartwarming use cases. At the company’s stand, a selection of additively manufactured products including a wrist stabiliser, shoe insoles, and a Toucan prosthesis were introduced as devices that aid with the quality of life for both humans and animals. In particular, the Toucan prosthetic is designed with comfort and functionality at its core and is produced using a durable lattice framework.
Full-speed scanning with Creaform
Creaform

Finally, there were plenty of incredible stands located across the four halls of the show. However, one of our personal favourites was Creaform’s exhibit. The company had a variety of 3D scanning solutions on display including a selection of the HandyScan 3D solutions, the Peel 3D scanner, and the Go!Scan 3D.
It was fascinating to see these 3D scanners live in action. In particular, the HandyScan solutions were used to scan a full-scale motorcycle on the stand, with the results displayed on a nearby screen.
